Gravel Trails of Rochester

Rochester has a rich off-road trail network that spans many miles. There are places like Genesse Valley Park where you can choose to hit three different networks from one place.

1. Erie Canal

This is the most well known multi-use trail that is in the Rochester Area. There are a variety of trail surfaces for this corridor based on where you are. Some areas are paved with lots of pedestrian traffic and amazing ice cream shops. There are other areas where the trail is a crushed gravel with fewer pedestrians. If you start in Greece at Henpeck Park you have an amazing 11 miles of crushed gravel with few road crossings to get to our Brockport location. Starting from the kayak launch in Fairport allows for checking out the ice cream stops along the canal.

2. Lehigh Valley Greenway

Going southwest one can stay on gravel by following the Lehigh Valley Greenway. You can ride up to 16 miles each way.

3. Genesse Valley Greenway

This Greenway trail will take you from Rochester into the Southern Tier. This is a great trail to explore farms and little hamlets along the way.

4. Genesse River Greenway

Following the Genesse River this trail starts along the shores of Lake Ontario. You then follow the  meandering river south.

5. Hojack Trail

This trail starts along Philips Rd in Webster and ends at Lake Rd. This approximately 7 mile trail follows the path of the Hojack Railroad bed. You will pass Charles Sextant Memorial Park, Vosberg Hollow Park, Can easily swing into Gosnell Big Woods Park. Once you reach Lake Rd you can turn around and head back the way you came or head along the rolling hills of Lake to get back to Philips Rd. There is trail parking on Orchard Rd and at Vosberg Hollow.

Spring Bike Checks

Spring is sprung and that means hitting the roads and trails again. There are a few items you should check on your bike before that first ride to have a great time.

1. Tire Pressure

You want to make sure that you have the right tire pressure for your wheels. This will also show you if you need a new tube if the tire does not hold air. You may want to get a new floor pump to make this easier. The KO Apex is a great floor pump that can keep your tires at perfect pressure and any other balls or sporting equipment. At just under $50 this is a great value to add to your space.

2. Chain Condition

If you have been riding inside or not spring is a great time to check your chain out. We recommend cleaning the chain and giving it a new layer of lubricant. If there is significant rust or damage to the chain it may be time to replace the chain. The Pro Chain Cleaner kit comes with all the solvents and new lubrication that you need. At under $40 dollars it is the best way to get all the parts you need. We also have an assortment of chains to replace yous if it is beyond cleaning.

3. Brake Engagement

Another area to check is making sure when you squeeze your brakes the bike slows down when you need it to.

4. Tune Up

Many people start their cycling season with a tune up to make sure that everything is functioning properly. We offer a few levels of tune up to meet your needs.

After you have your ride ready to go join us for the Grand Opening Celebration Ride for Brockport. We will be rolling along the historic Erie Canal.

Also check out our flat clinics that will be held throughout the month of April. More details to come.
